Kaiyadeva Nighantu considered the plant with blue flower as Vishnukrantha (Evolvulus alsinoides Linn) and with white flowers as Shankhapushpi (Convolvulus pluricaulis Chois). In South India Vishnukraanta (Evolvulus alsinoides Linn) is used as Shankhapushpi.
